In Anticipation is a spatial intervention exploring the material and lived conditions of defence through architectural vulnerability: taped glass, and the fantasy of protection without loss

Inside De Thomas, tape appears on the windows, borrowing from a hurricane-preparation practice familiar in Bermuda: taping glass before a storm in an attempt to reinforce it. The gesture itself offers little real protection; it emerges from an inherited state of anticipation, waiting and preparing for storms before they arrive.

The tape marks an attempt at defence before damage has taken place. It puts faith in fragile material, while marking what is vulnerable and making visible what might break.

Defence is never fully complete, and protection without loss belongs to fantasy.

Must an act of protection expose what it is trying to defend?

A performative reading of the same title extends this concern with defence through language, voice, and the embarrassing effort it takes not to explain the work.

Alongside this, video works from the series from my home computer will be shown. Made from found blog images and text, the videos shift the question of protection into online space, treating the blog as something to be preserved as a site of comfort and escape that has become harder to find within contemporary platform infrastructures.
