A Slip of Space

A Slip of Space lies somewhere between ornament and accident. It is the sudden and silky undressing of what is otherwise too easily classified into either architectural structure, support, or trivial mishap. To slip upends any previously recognized up or down, beginning or end and abruptly introduces a new relationship between that which slipped and the place where it lands. It is a movement that jumbles the order of appearance—a final flourish becomes a fundamental starting point and that which was meant to be kept hidden is suddenly revealed. Throughout the room metal strips slip and support. Structural remnants are mirrored and released from their original mountings, finding a new position as adornment to the floor. This slip of perspective allows for each translation to exist as both frill and floorplan in the same breath—mishaps pinned as exceedingly noteworthy starting points.
