Horizon’s Eye is part of a broader investigation into identity in relation to migratory heritage. It strives to address displacement and suspension, focussing on (visual) language and lore in an attempt to fuse different modes of cultural belonging. The harpy eagle is a node in one such network of cultural meaning, a bird of prey commonly found in the Surinamese rainforest that is the subject of oral histories and myths, often cast in the role of protector.

Text by Sophie Huijbregts for the group exhibition Atari, presented at No Man's Art Gallery, summer 2023.
