Ali T. As’ad is a multidisciplinary practitioner based in Amsterdam. His work traverses architecture, design, research, and curation and has been featured internationally at, amongst others, the World Architecture Festival in Singapore, the Venice Architecture Biennale, the Chicago Athenaeum, Amman Design Week, the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, the Amsterdam Centre for Architecture, and Dutch Design Week.
Ali is a PhD candidate and member of the Curatorial Research Collective. His research field examines the praxis of Palestinian exhibition making and museum practices as part of a broader investigation of the incongruity between the political space of the state and the cultural space of the nation in the twenty-first-century condition. His most recent works have been commissioned, published, or featured by (in no order): Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam), Framer Framed (Amsterdam), Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis, UvA (Amsterdam), the A.M. Qattan Foundation/ The Palestinian Museum (Ramallah), Stedelijk Studies (Amsterdam), Journal of Palestine Studies (Washington), the Centre for Palestine Studies/ Centre for Global Media and Communications, SOAS (London), and the Institute for Palestine Studies/ Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, Doha Institute (Doha).
Ali is also editor-in-chief of MAKAN Journal of Culture & Space, published by Think Tanger (Tangier). MAKAN is a trilingual print publication (Arabic, English, French) that critically engages with contemporary architectural and urban conditions, critical arts writing, as well as broader scholarship emanating from or focused on, exploring the SWANA region.
