Acid Babylon: Cabin Hallucinations
Acid Babylon – Cabin Hallucinations is the third iteration of a destination between reality and the imaginary—a place where meaning melts, absurdity is embraced and the on-going struggle for a better tomorrow is never finished. Drawing from a myth shared across belief systems, the Tower of Babel tells a story of a united humanity speaking a single language, building a great tower to reach the heavens. But a divine force, unsettled by this unity, fractured their speech and scattered them across the earth, leaving the city unfinished. After the Acid, we pick up the pieces, settling in the ruins—A speculative sequel to Babel set in contemporary times. Let’s speak a common tongue, let’s build and demolish, a collage of utopian ideas. Teleported from the back of your mind, from small hills, parking garages or desolate concrete rooftops. Here, we do not seek completion but continual transformation. Cabin Hallucinations is the third life of a wooden cabin which was originally built as a living space in the back of an independent bookstore, was transported, rebuilt, and has been running as an unauthorized space for communal gathering on the roof of the Sandberg Institute, for the past year. In its second life, it was used as a tattoo studio, festival grounds, exhibition space, canvas and underground bar. Now for its third iteration, the project transforms into the jacuzzi of Acid Babylon—join each other in the warm waters and relate, speculate and hallucinate in a consciousness soup. Who knows where we go from here. Bon Voyage!
