Biography
Lina Mittendorff is a writer and researcher currently based in Amsterdam. With a previous education in Cultural Anthropology, she reflects on the (im)material spatialities of place making through writing. In her practice she explores the inherently political, social, and normative currents that underlie these affective encounters of differing scales.
Anthropology of a Space: Marineterrein
Through this navigation device I twist and turn and somehow found place in space. Departing from the map as both metaphor and ideological object central to the history of the Marineterrein, this work is an attempt to sense what a map could mean in the context of an anthropology of a space. Where maps normally strive for accuracy and all engulfing representation, this graduation work rather strives for an opaque encounter of affect. The publication can be read as an alternative cartography of cultural layers of meaning to be found in the built and unbuilt environment of the current Marineterrein.
