report: 25-april-2007 - The auction of the first period of project W139/basement

Yesterday I have been the auction of the first period of project W139/basement. It was held in the party hall with a bar. They projected the information (artist, picture of work, title, year, material, copy number) on a screen (estimated 3x2.4 meter), which is quite small for the big hall i think. Quite many people were there.

During the first hour only one work was sold with 80euro. During the second hour more works (but no more than 10) were sold with 35-400euro. Most of work were sold at first bid without competition. During the auction the exhibitions were closed. The un-exhibited works for the auction were hung on the two walls of the corridor outside of the exhibition spaces.

We understand that the auction was not supposed to be a highly professional event. I considered it as a nice try, a nice opportunity to represent the works - in a way it was almost like a slide lecture. "For a try out this is quite good I think", said Marjo van Baar, the project coordinator / staff member Sandberg Institute.
